... The exhibition "The Countee Cullen Art Collection" opened in Hampton University's Museum this year? Before deciding on Hampton, Va., Cullen's widow, Ida Cullen Cooper, searched for years for a home that would appreciate the collection's historical significance and aesthetic value. The poet acquired most of the 29 paintings and sculptures, including pieces by Jacob Lawrence, Palmer Hayden, Hale Woodruff and Augusta Savage, between 1927 and his death in 1946.

... Actress Debbie Allen choreographed and jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval composed the music for the world premiere of Pepito's Story? The play, which tells the story of a boy who loves to dance, is based on the children's book by Eugene Fern. It runs at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., April 10 to 14.
