Race-ing Justice, En-gendering Power. - book reviews

American Visions, Feb-March, 1993 by Gary A. Puckrein

Race-ing Justice, En-gendering Power edited and with an introduction by Toni Morrison (Pantheon. 1992. $14.00) - This is a troubling collection of essays intended to "evaluate and analyze various aspects of what was and is happening," as manifested in the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings. How well the collection represents "social reality" will depend on the reader's perspective.

Those who assume Thomas' guilt will find the literary allusions, ranging from Robinson Crusoe to James Baldwin, insightful and entertaining. Supporters of Thomas will no doubt be less amused. Those interested in the facts of the matter will not find any answers here.
