Almost no phone companies support them yet, but Compaq's newest Presario desktops have taken the plunge with standard G Lite or universal asymmetric digital subscriber line (UADSL) modems. Targeted for the year 2000, G.Lite service promises 1.5Mbps downstream and 384Kbps upstream data transfers over normal phone lines without interrupting voice service.
