...The efforts of Apple Computing to update the look of its product packaging and create a more environment-friendly box. The company now ships its products in unbleached brown boxes that can be manufactured from up to 100 percent recycled paper fiber. The company has also reduced the amount of polystyrene cushioning material and shrink wrap. In addition, product manuals have been reformatted to reduce the number of pages.

...The industry hype now urging consumers to buy into pen-based computing. As editors, we've seen all the hoopla before: 128K Macs, Windows 1.0, early LANs, multimedia. All terrific technologies that, in most cases, became full-fledged business solutions and eventually took a place as important, valuable pieces of technology.

In the case of pen-based computers, time alone will tell if an amusing novelty will become indispensable.
