Sharp would have you believe that the palm-top computer is the PC of the future. And while I doubt anyone will be able to comfortably touch-type on the new Sharp PC-3000, as the company claims, this tiny PC will still impress you with 1MB of ROM, 1MB of RAM, and a portable weight of slightly more than a pound (and an estimated list price of less than $1,000).

Built into ROM are MS-DOS 3.3, Traveling Software's LapLink, and a proprietary spreadsheet, text editor, and PIM (personal-information management) software. Options include a memory card, an AC adapter, and a 1.44MB 3.5-inch floppy-disk drive. Like the Hewlett-Packard HP95-LX, the Sharp also pulls its main power from AA batteries that you buy anywhere. Built-in serial and parallel ports mean connectivity is not far off, and optional RAM cards offer unlimited storage space. The 640-by-200 pixel LCD screen is reminiscent of the Sharp Wizard displays, but its larger size shows more of your letters or spreadsheets on-screen. Sharp, (201) 529-8200
