GeoWorks personal office series: low-cost productivity - GeoWorks Inc.'s Writer, Designer and Desktop applications - Previews - Product Announcement

Home Office Computing, Feb, 1992 by Crystal Waters

GeoWorks, publisher of GeoWorks Ensemble, a graphical operating environment that competes with Windows (see review, July 1991), has created three business-oriented products: GeoWorks Writer, Designer, and Desktop. These are ideal applications for those of you still running systems that are unsuitable for Windows. At $70 each, they're a great deal for anyone.

Writer is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) word processor and low-end desktop publisher sporting multiplle columns, a spelling chekcer, graphics importing, paragraph formatting, and so on. Designer comes with 150 pieces of clip art, and lets you draw with multiple colors, patterns, lines, and shapes. Both Writer and Designer include a variety of templates for stationery, business forms, posters, newsletters, signs, and so forth.

Desktop is a potpourri of business software, including a file and disk manager, personal-information and time manager, address book, a communications program, and America Online software. All have the familiar, smooth GeoWorks look and feel -- instinctive pull-down menus, descriptive icons, and easy-to-use features--great for beginners and experts alike. GeoWorks, (510) 644-0883
