Computing on the fly - Flytech Technology Inc.'s Carry-I 9000 microcomputer - product announcement

Home Office Computing, Sept, 1991 by Edward P. Stevenson

Computing on the Fly

Representatives from the Taiwanese computer manufacturer Flytech came by recently with their new book-size desktop computer system, the 16-MHz 386SX-based Carry-I 9000 - the smallest desktop design we've seen. The tiny CPU (9.4 by 7.3 by 1.8 inches; weight, about five pounds) contains a 1.44MB floppy-disk drive, a 40- (or 80- or 100-) MB hard-disk drive, and video circuitry for a 1024-by-768 color VGA display. There's room for a half-lenght card.

Scaled to the dimensions of the CPU are the keyboard (81 keys that handle all the functions of a 101-key enhanced AT-style board) and the 10-inch super-VGA monitor. A stand lets you mount the CPU vertically, reducing its desk real estate to about 20 square inches. Equipped with 4MB of RAM (the maximum), a 40MB hard-disk drive, and the color VGA, the Carry-I 9000 will sell for about $3,000 list.

Or consider Flytech's Carry-I Cadet model, a 10-MHz XT-based system with 640K of RAM, a 1.44MB floppy-disk drive, keyboard, and a nine-inch monochrome monitor. The Cadet sells for - are you ready for this? - $419 list. Flytech, (408) 727-7373
