Gerardo Garcia wanted to grow his hair long so he could donate it to a group that makes wigs for children who lose their own hair due to cancer treatment
Reason, Jan, 2005 by Charles Oliver
Gerardo Garcia wanted to grow his hair long so he could donate it to a group that makes wigs for children who lose their own hair due to cancer treatment. He says he was motivated by his own family's history of cancer. But he attends Harlingen High School South, a public school in Texas that forbids boys, but not girls, from growing their hair past their shoulders.
School officials "commend Gerry's efforts and his cause" but apparently think the dress code is more important.
