* Seventy-one percent of parents with children ages 14 or older say they do not monitor their children's Internet use. Eighteen percent of children ages 8 to 18 said they plan to meet someone in person whom they have met online (Roper survey for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children).

* A statistically unusual number of U.S. presidents died in the year following a multiple of 7.5 years of their lives (LSU professor Subhash Kak, who encountered the anomaly while doing research on "complex system behavior").

* There were 2,451 postal employees bitten by dogs last year, down 167 from 1997 and far below the peak years in the 1980s when more than 7,000 letter carriers were attacked annually (Postal Service report).
