Clinton the Bore

One of for the people's favorite little books last year was Harry Shearer's It's the Stupidity Stupid: Why (Some) People Hate Clinton and Why the Rest of Us Have to Watch, part of Ballantine's Library of Contemporary Thought. Shearer, who seems to have something worthwhile to say about a lot of things in our modern world, earlier published a book of essays called Man Bites Town.

Here's a quotation from his new book: "So there's something about Bill Clinton the policy wonk that always rubbed us the wrong way. Who in his right mind would want to spend New Year's Eve at thought-provoking seminars with Robert Reich, for God's sake? Renaissance Weekend always sounded like something organized by people who didn't get dates for the prom, who wanted to prove that, since high school, they had developed far finer forms of enjoyment than were available to the rest of us. Me, I'll take Dick Clark, freezing his Botox off on that Times Square balcony, anytime."
