* Americans currently (1997-99) spend 11 percent more time with their children than they did during a study conducted between 1992-94 (NPD Marketing Group, based on a study of 18,000 adults who recorded their activities during those years).

* Nearly three-quarters of U.S. schools report that they are not yet fully prepared for the possible effects of the Y2K glitch on computers and other devices. Still, 98 percent of school systems say they will be ready when the time comes (U.S. Department of Education survey).

* As many as 50 percent of young females display an increase in feelings of depression and urges to diet and bulimia symptoms as a result of reading teen magazines (University of Texas study).
