Sullivan speaks clearly about why Islam is not the enemy

I had the pleasure of meeting Antony Sullivan at the American Muslim Alliance convention in San Jose, Calif., in October. He gave a speech that was applauded again and again, for it was very bold, and truth emanating from a non-Muslim called for applause. He spoke about the hugely unbalanced U.S. foreign policy, the Palestinian plight and the genocide of Iraqi children in clear and unequivocal terms.

In Sullivan's article responding to the question of whether policymakers should see Islam as an enemy of the West [Symposium, Nov. 5], it was so comforting to read that someone realizes that the first victim of Sept. 11 was Islam.

Since that time, American Muslims have been caught in the unenviable position of proving our patriotism on the one hand and, on the other, weeping for the unnecessary loss of life that goes on.

Even more sad is that it has no foreseeable end. This vise that we are in only gets tighter by the day it seems.

Sullivan's editorial about Islam was precise, full of truths and to the point. Where Sullivan attempts to mend the world and find common ground, Don Feder once again rehashes the same Israeli-fed rhetoric about Islam. Its only purpose is to tarnish the second-largest religion in the world.

If Feder wants comments about war and hate, I suggest that he read the Talmud.
