"Fur is murder!"

-- Graffiti sprayed on fur stores in the Long Island, N.Y., area attacked by Animal Liberation Front supporters of the "Sheboygan 14," a group arrested while protesting at a Wisconsin fur farm.

"His defection is yet another sign that the Democrats have moved far to the left of the American people -- and of many members of their own party."

-- Republican National Committee Chairman Jim Nicholson applauds Rep. Virgil Goode, former Virginia Democrat, who declared himself an independent voting with the Republican caucus.

"A United Nations that seeks to impose its presumed authority on the American people without their consent begs for confrontation."

-- Sen. Jesse Helms, a North Carolina Republican and critic of the United Nations, addressing the U.N. Security Council. No applause followed his 40-minute speech.
