In the end, Singh (68) uncharacteristically surged ahead with his short-stick, pulling permanently past Stricker (70) with an unanswered 15-footer on the 17th green. But the unlikely duo already had provided the major duel of the season.

No. 8: No Norman. Greg Norman missed the cut at the Masters and then exited the PGA Tour pool for the rest of the season after surgery on his left shoulder. Though "The Shark" plans to return to competition in November to host his own tournament (the Shark Shootout), the game suffered somewhat with its No. 2 gallery magnet on the sidelines. And Norman's absence has put a damper on the Presidents Cup (Dec. 7-13 in Melbourne, Australia). Norman spearheaded the event's first trip overseas, and nobody has mentioned the team match-play competition since he left the limelight.

No. 9: Fab Five's Major Miss. At the conclusion of last season's three-major coup, nobody would have believed that golf's twentysomething talent trust of Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Justin Leonard, David Duval and Lee Westwood would manage just two top-fives and no victories in this season's Grand Slams. Remarkably, that run of relative major championship futility has come in an otherwise solid season for the five-some. Duval and Westwood lead the PGA Tour and European PGA Tour money lists, respectively, and the quintet of youngsters has tallied 12 victories worldwide this year.
