Antiaging creams: they're not just for women anymore
Advocate, The, Feb 26, 2008 by Caroline Ryder
GOOD NEWS FOR GUYS--your skin ages at a slower rate than women's. That's right, men start out with higher levels of collagen and elastin in their skin and lose it more slowly. But that doesn't mean men are off the hook. You're still prone to the effects of sunlight and smoking(the two biggest factors in premature aging of the skin), so start looking for a good antiaging moisturizer with SPF now. The men's skin-care industry is booming, with guys--homosexual, metrosexual, and just plain sensible--realizing that skin care is a male birthright too.
Hunt down products designed specifically for dudes (your skin is different, thanks to your fuzzy beards). And acquaint yourself with the lingo. AHAs--alpha hydroxy acids--exfoliate the skin and can reduce some of the effects of photoaging, though some claim that AHAs actually make your skin more sensitive to photoaging. Always use an AHA cream with a sunscreen that contains UVA and UVB protection.
