Tom Lantos

Tom Lantos, 80, a Democratic U,S. representative from California, of cancer, in Bethesda, Md., February 11. The only Holocaust survivor ever to serve in Congress, Lantos voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment, which would have constitutionally banned same-sex marriage. He also supported adoption by gays and founded the Congressional Human Rights Caucus.
