Meet the bloggers: Nathaniel Rogers

Advocate, The,  March 25, 2008

Age: Older than Penelope Cruz. Younger than Nicole Kidman. Location: New York City Blog: The Film Experience (filmexperience.blogspot.com), "a playful worship of the movies--past, present, and future. Cinema is a queer religion."

Date launched: September 8, 2004 Visitors per month: 75,000 Why you started: I've never been able to shut up about the movies. It was originally intended as a baby sidekick to my much older website of the same name: TheFilmExperience.net (launched in '99). The blog took over like an unruly entitled child. Purpose of blog: To offer movie lovers a creative fun diversion from the standard news-driven movie blogs. To unlock the latent cinephilia in more casual filmgoers. To obsess about the Oscars with fellow red-carpet enthusiasts. To promote the gospel of Michelle Pfeiffer and other fine actresses--it's all about the actresses.

Year you quit your day job: Late in 2005 I left a human resources management job, which in retrospect seems totally foolish. But I need to write, so now the HR career is a part-time consulting gig. The things we do for love ... Biggest advertiser: HBO. The blog is spotty with advertisers, but my amazing and loyal readers keep me going. Here's to generosity! Three cons of blogging: 1. Friends think you're wasting your time (you're probably not). 2. You begin to think you're losing your mind (you probably are). 3. Possible benefactors think you're already successful
