Advocate.com top 10
Advocate, The, June 17, 2008
This year, more than ever, you've come to us for breaking news and smart entertainment. Here are our 10 most clicked-on stories
1. Labor of Love
The story that captivated the world tops our chart. Trans man Thomas Beatie shared his first-person account of carrying a child for himself and his partner, prompting a media storm, driving our website traffic through the roof, and landing him exclusive coverage on Oprah.
2. Obama Talks All Things LGBT
The Democratic presidential race has provided enough political theater to make Shakespeare green with envy. So landing the only LGBT sit-down interview with Sen. Barack Obama really got the community clicking to see what the senator said about our issues and what he would do as president.
3. Homophobosphere
Unsurprisingly, webheads flocked to this insightful look into gay hate and new media. Writer Will Doig posed many intriguing questions: Should blogs and websites censor the homophobic vitriol spewed on their comment threads? Are these odious rants a true reflection of hetero views? Everyone had an opinion.
4. Jack Is Back
After the handsome Jack Mackenroth decided to leave Project Runway early due to health problems, he sat down with us to dish on the show, living with HIV, and why Rami thinks he is better than everyone else.

5. Liberals and Their Invisible Homophobia
The ever-provocative James Kirchick turned the tables to shed some light on the lingering homophobia that many "liberals" get away with. Go ahead and call yourself progressive--we're watching!
6. Alec Baldwin on Men, Love, and His Bible-Thumping Brother
The Baldwin brothers provide constant intrigue and this interview with Alec did not disappoint. Brandon Voss drew him out on blogger Matt Drudge's pass at him, the men he's loved, and his brother Stephen's rant on gay marriage.
7. Archuleta Idol
Reading Dave White's jaunty, stream-of-consciousness reflections on American Idol have become a religious experience for Advocate.com visitors, so it's no surprise that one of his Idol innovations made our top 10. If you're feeling down or a little too serious, we suggest taking a ride on White's magic pink carpet.
8. Obama Explains It All for You
He's hack! Once just wasn't enough for Senator Obama. Indeed, the first time he talked to any LGBT outlet drew so much interest, it pushed this October 2007 interview about antigay gospel singer Donnie McClurkin into our top 10 for 2008. Now that's star power!
9. John Krasinski (BGF)
The hunky young star of The Office gave his first gay press interview ever and, though nervous, still felt free to talk about his man crush on Leatherheads costar George Clooney.
10. All Aboard the Pink Flight (Kathy Griffin to Australia)
Kyle Buchanan's rendering of the raucous Kathy Griffin-led flight to Sydney for gay Mardi Gras put the "fun" back in flying. What can we say? It's been so long since "D-list" stars streaked up and down airplane aisles in their bras.
