Trans visibility
Advocate, The, July 1, 2008 by David Schultz
So Margaret Somerville, Cathy Renna, et al are concerned that the publicity surrounding Thomas Beatie's baby will harm the child ["Transpositions," May 20]? Are they equally concerned about the publicity surrounding Suri Cruise and the Brangelina children? Do they worry about the million children in this country raised in poverty or in abusive homes or by closeted gay men in sham marriages? Give me a break. That anyone would spend more than a brief moment of their day thinking about the father who gives birth is pathetic. Further, those "activists" who would prefer that the Beaties kept quiet share this opinion with the right-wingers who would prefer gays just kept quiet already. Just be invisible, right? That strategy worked so well for gay rights in the '50s, huh?
