Tammy's in love
Advocate, The, April 26, 2005 by Connie McFarland, Brian Irwin
What courage! What dedication! What love! Tammy Lynn Michaels's interview was touching and inspiring, proving the tremendous love she and Melissa have for each other ["Committed to Love," March 29].
I realized once again the devotion my partner, Carole, has shown to me in a similar manner while I have struggled through breast cancer and rheumatoid arthritis. She retired early to care for me. These are committed relationships!

Tammy's interview was interesting. In fact, I had tears well up a couple of times; however, what stood out most were her comments about the "flyover" states. That term belittles those of us living in the heartland. It implies that those of us not living in New York or Los Angeles are second-class citizens. Also, her comment "how do you bring New York to [Indiana]" seems indicative of an attitude of, what they have in the metropolitan areas, we need in the rural part of the nation. As an out gay man living in Arkansas, I don't want my life to be the same as in New York. I live in Arkansas, where we have a simpler way of living that is not backward, nor do I encounter "judgment and criticism."
