Gay, bi, Tribeca

Advocate, The,  April 26, 2005

IT WAS Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve ... until this month's hip Tribeca Film Festival, where out actor Craig Chester unveils his screenwriting-directorial debut, Adam & Steve. Chester and fellow out actor Malcolm Gets (Caroline in the City) play jaded 30-something boyfriends in the Woody Allen-meets-John Waters-style romantic comedy. Hysterical costars include Saturday Night Live's Chris Kattan, Julie Hagerty, Jackie Beat, and--as a chunky goth fag hag--Parker Posey. "The first time I saw Parker in [the fat suit and prosthetics], it was disturbing," Chester tells The Buzz. "She looked like Carnie Wilson before the stomach staple."

Also debuting is The Mostly Unfabulous Social Life of Ethan Green, director George Bamber's live-action adaptation of Eric Orner's syndicated comic strip, revolving around a gay man trapped in dating hell. Although happily shacked up for 10 years running, Bamber admits he could identify with the strip's protagonist. "I have a horrible dating life," he notes, laughing. "So I took the easy way out and decided to be in a relationship. I copped out!"
