The Gay Games will return to Europe for a second visit in 2010, the Federation of Gay Games announced November 13. The eighth edition of the international sports event will be held in Cologne, Germany, which local organizers tout as "one of Europe's most welcoming and diverse dries."

The announcement was made in Chicago, where Gay Games VII will take place July 15-22. A rival event, Outgames 2006, is scheduled to begin July 29 in Montreal, the original 2006 Gay Games host city. As Outgames boasted nearing 10,000 registered athletes at press time, Chicago organizers continued to predict more than 12,000 participants. So maybe two Games are better than one.
