The city of Atlanta was attempting to make life better for everyone when it enacted a human rights ordinance that protected the rights of gays and other minorities in private clubs. But state lawmakers didn't agree. So they outlawed the ordinance.

Now city lawyers have agreed in court to drop a longstanding effort to fine the Druid Hills Golf Club for not extending partner memberships to gay club members Lee Kyser and Randy New. "At this point, there is nowhere to go with it legally," said Kyser of the challenge. "But it is not a dead issue."
