A solid reputation?
Advocate, The, Dec 6, 2005
What's in a reputation? For the embattled gay mayor of Spokane, Wash., it could be everything.
James E. West says that even if he's recalled in a special election on December 6 over allegations that he offered City Hall jobs to young men he met in online chat rooms, he'll still have a better reputation than the local newspaper editor who investigated him. "This is my town," West told the Associated Press, announcing his intention to sue the paper. "I'll be here long after [Spokesman-Review editor] Steve Smith's gone."
In response, Smith said, "I'm not being recalled, and my reputation won't be decided one way or another on December 6."
