Pink postproduction: gay projects get loving care from the out gay manager of a New York postproduction studio

Advocate, The,  July 19, 2005  by Lawrence Ferber

For top artists including Green Day and Tori Amos, a guy named Steven Alvarado helps make art happen. As studio manager of New York City's Dubway Studios, which provides audio recording and mixing services for film, TV, and music projects, Alvarado keeps everything on schedule. He also represents for queer people. "As far as I know I'm the only gay studio manager in NYC," Alvarado says. "This still seems to be a hetero male--dominated world. I want people to know what we do here, and I want to do everything to work with [gay people and projects]."

A musician in his own right, with a new album titled The Howl Sessions, Alvarado admits he has encountered some homophobia in his career. "I've had people, not knowing I was gay, make [antigay] comments," he recalls. "And I'm always quick to step in!
