Anchors away

Advocate, The,  July 5, 2005  by Jack Hornor

"Rise of the Small Gay Cruises" [May/June] brought back happy memo ries of a week in 1994 that I spent on RSVP's Sea Spirit, a lovely small ship which held, if memory serves, just 100 passengers. Every member of the crew was gay except the engineer, who was certainly gay friendly (he kept buying us beers when we went ashore). The ship had no swimming pool, but who cared? We anchored in bays throughout the Caribbean that were better than any pool could be. With only one bar, one cabaret performer, and no gambling, the Sea Spirit offered a quieter: slower-paced, and truly more intimate experience than other gay cruises I've gone on. It also had beautiful staterooms and terrific food. I was truly saddened when RSVP stopped sailing her. I guess she was just ahead of her time.
