You say Waorani

Advocate, The,  Oct 11, 2005  by Dara Larson

I enjoyed the article on Chad Allen ["Missionary Man," August 30], but I did notice an error in reference to the "Waodani," the violent tribe from the Ecuadoran Amazon. They are actually called the Waorani. I know this because my professor from a couple of years ago, Clay Robarchek at Wichita State University, lived with them in the late 1980s and wrote a book about them titled Waorani: The Contexts of Violence and War. I think it is wonderful that Allen went there and stayed with them. They are an extremely interesting people to study in the field of anthropology.
