A proud campaign

Advocate, The,  Oct 11, 2005  by Sarah Wildman

Gay attorney Brian Ellner may have been a long shot in the race for Manhattan borough president in September [see results on Advocate.com], but that didn't stop him from finding his way--win or lose--into history. Ellner, 35, caused a national sensation when he decided to feature his partner, Simon, in a TV campaign ad "Politicians from Gore to George W. Bush to the local mayoral candidates--those that have partners in their lives generally introduce them to the public," Ellner said. "It's the cliche political end of every [campaign] ad."

The ad also featured a photo illustration of a naked President Bush, causing local Fox affiliates to refuse to air it.
