Dreier to the GOP's rescue
Advocate, The, Feb 14, 2006 by Chad Graham
As more tales of corrupt lobbying activity seep out of the nation's capital, the GOP is in the midst of damage control. And, on January 9, House speaker Dennis Hastert picked California Republican congressman David Dreier, chairman of the House Rules Committee, to help clean up the mess.
Dreier--who has long remained mum about his sexual orientation--has the high-profile (and unenviable) job of writing legislation that will reduce the influence of lobbyists. "We want to deal with this issue and get it behind us as quickly as possible," Dreier told Fox News in January.
Several proposals from members of both parties already have been introduced.
