That Kennedy mystique

Advocate, The,  July 3, 2007  by J. Beeb

I'd heard a rumor from two sources--as far back as the early 1960s--that John F. Kennedy had a youthful history of sexual relationships with males ["First Friend," May 22]. Due to the oddity of one of these sources, I tended to believe it.

During the late 1950s a friend of mine twice rented one of several rustic and somewhat remote summer cabins on the sea in New England. The female owner told him that during the mid 1950s one of her steady clients had been John F. Kennedy. He brought in sailors and male friends for much drinking and loud partying, she said, and he also had homosexual sex with some of them. How she knew this was unclear, but she spoke of it with great disgust, telling my friend that Kennedy was lucky she wasn't the sort to tattle, since his family would surely have been horrified had they known.
