Gut, be gone - Letters
Men's Fitness, Oct, 2002 by Deon Johnson
About two years ago I was discharged from the military, and I looked pretty solid. Although I have continued to work out regularly, I've put on weight in the abdominal area as I've grown older. I've pretty much continued eating as I did during my military period, but at times I've tried eating less in the hopes of losing my growing gut.
Since January, though, I've followed a strict meal plan, very similar to the one you suggested in "Food Frequency" [December 2001]. At first it was difficult to follow, because I felt very hungry before bed, which almost forced me to change my dinner meal to something more substantial and fat-laden. But I stuck with your program, and not only have I lost my gut, I've found more energy for my challenging daily activities.
I've also shared the plan with others, and they too have nothing but good things to say about it and your magazine.

Congratulations. One of the tricks to staying on a weight-loss plan is to ride out the pangs when they first occur. Such pangs go away quickly, to be replaced, as you found out, by improved metabolic efficiency which translates into weight loss and increased energy. Any other success stories out there?
