What women want - Female Persuasions

Men's Fitness, Oct, 2002

IN A RELATIVELY NEW RELATIONSHIP, WHAT'S A GOOD ALTERNATIVE TO FLOWERS OR CANDY?

Beth: A sweet card. A sweet little voice mail. A little present for no special occasion. A book, if it's the right kind of book.

Laurie: Offer to do something special, or a gift certificate for some pampering, like a pedicure. Something that catches you off guard. Maybe offer to give a massage.

Yvonne: I love humor in a man, so a cute or funny card would be great.

WOULD YOU DATE A GUY WHO PLAYS VIDEO GAMES?

Beth: I don't have a problem with it at all. It shows that in some ways he's still a kid at heart.

Laurie: I wouldn't ban a guy who plays video games. I like a playful guy and an athletic guy, so games can be another outlet for that. But it has to be within reason.

Yvonne: I think it's fine as long as it doesn't get in the way of our time together.

WOULD YOU DATE a GUY WHO WAS SHORTER THAN YOU?

Beth: Sure. It doesn't matter. It's what's on the inside that counts. I could always wear low heels!

Laurie: No. I've never dated anyone shorter than me.

Yvonne: Yes.

SHOULD GUYS TRIM THEIR PUBIC HAIR?

Beth: I actually haven't thought about that! I would say, yes, if they're really long.

Laurie: If there's a problem there! I think you know if you need to.

Yvonne: Interesting question.

OF ALL THE BAD MANNERS, WHAT'S THE ONE THAT REALLY IS A DEAL-BREAKER?

Beth: Saying a rude comment. Not thinking before you speak. Basically saying the wrong thing at the wrong time.

Laurie: General disrespect for who you are and feelings. Any kind of snide remark.

Yvonne: The kind of language he is using. If he curses a lot, that is a big turnoff.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION?

Beth: I'm all for it. If you are totally into that person, who cares what other people think? You should be able to fully express yourself with that person.

Laurie: It's okay if it's within reason, but there's a time and a place. Holding hands or a little kiss is one thing, but there's a fine line between that and being disrespectful to the people around you.

Yvonne: I think PDAs are fine, to a limit. Hugging, kissing (we're talking no tongue) and holding hands are fine.

WOULD YOU DATE A GUY WHO SHAVES HIS BODY?

Beth: Definitely. It doesn't matter at all to me. I like smooth skin.

Laurie: Yes. I do! I don't mind a guy shaving. I don't mind either way.

Yvonne: Yes, and I have. I find someone interesting and attractive based on his personality, sense of humor and self-confidence.
