Fit outside the gym

Men's Fitness,  Dec, 2005

Staying fit doesn't have to end the moment you step off the treadmill. In fact, you can shed more than 10 pounds a year by just burning an extra 100 calories a day. Trust us, it's easier than you think. Try these simple starters from University of Louisville nutritionist Christopher R. Mohr, Ph.D., R.D. To suggest your own favorite Fit Outside the Gym tips, shoot us an e-mail at tips@mensfitness.com.

AT THE AIRPORT

Rather than waiting to board your plane, walk to the next terminal and back. Try to do it as quickly as possible--in less than 10 minutes if possible--for maximum calorie burn.

AT THE OFFICE

Stop reading blogs and instead climb your workplace stairs during your break. By going up and down the stairs just five minutes a day, you could burn up to 35,000 additional calories--a full 10 pounds of fat--each year.
