The rewards await - Publisher's Letter - Editorial

Men's Fitness, Nov, 2002 by Joe Weider

For the past 15 years, the majority of my days have begun in similar fashion--with an early-morning walk through the streets of my Southern California neighborhood. The walk remains virtually the same, save for a few minor detours from day to day. The path my mind travels during it, however, continually changes.

What struck me this morning was the distinct chill in the air and the steam emanating from my breath, the first signs that the beginning of winter, and the start of yet another holiday season, is upon us. And although it is a season of celebration and happy ritual, it can also be a time when thoughts of missed opportunities and unrealized dreams storm our consciousness. The host of stimulants--sounds, smells, faces--we attach to the season elicit memories from our past, prompting us to take account of where our lives are and the direction in which they are heading.

It's natural to revisit those dreams and to wonder how different our lives would be had we made a few key choices along the way, and to question whether we failed to take steps we should have taken to make our lives better. And while it may now be too late to take some of those steps, there's always time to readdress your lifestyle and begin the effort to alter it.

That's the great thing about fitness--it's never too late to take that first step. You'll be happy you did, for this alone will take your life in a new and rewarding direction.
