Resolve to improve - Publisher's Letter - Joe Weider, editorial - Brief Article - Editorial

Men's Fitness,  Jan, 2002  by Joe Weider

The new year is barely under way, but if you're like me, those resolutions made in earnest a short time ago are beginning to feel the first signs of strain.

Getting in shape, not to mention adhering to a consistent workout program, isn't always the easiest endeavor. We battle the devils fatigue and boredom. Time spent on the job often extends beyond the traditional eight-hour day, and we find ourselves struggling to find the hours to fit everything into our increasingly busy schedules. Our once steadfast resolution begins to weaken as the vigor with which we set our goals is no longer matched by the energy required to see them come to fruition.

It is during these times when it is important to remember that noteworthy gain rarely is achieved without some measure of personal sacrifice. And it is by meeting the most daunting challenges, whether by attaining a certain level of health and fitness or bettering another area of our lives, that we are able to reap the most fulfilling rewards.

We've all had to dig deep and do a bit of soul-searching to make it through a particularly grueling workout. And we've all felt the exhilaration that follows when we reflect upon our achievement. In the end, what we remember is not the struggle but the completion, the sense of pride we take in our accomplishment.

At MEN'S FITNESS, we know the road to a healthy lifestyle is going to present you with an innumerable series of peaks and valleys. There are times when you'll feel on top of the world, and other times when you will feel its collective weight resting squarely upon your shoulders. By providing a guideline, we hope to help you find those highs, traverse the lows, and reach a level of commitment that remains constant throughout the year.
