Dr. Lulu Hunt Peters' book Diet and Health, With Key to the Calories sold 2 million copies back in the day, which proves that many. Americans have long been at least aware of the need to eat healthy. Peters wrote that she lost 50 pounds on a diet of only 1,200 calories a day (that'll do it), supplemented with a daily workout regimen of two women's suffrage rallies.
