All your faves go low-carb

Men's Fitness, April, 2004

* TGI Friday's is the latest megachain to jump on the low-carb bandwagon. An entire line of high-protein, low-carb meals, including New York strip steak topped with blue-cheese chunks, is now on the menu. Our favorite: Cheeseburger Cheeseburger--two patties with cheese, no bun. Use the extra calorie and carb savings as an excuse to order another Ultimate Margarita--or to slap the grin off one of those pimply button-wearing waiters.

* Count Ruby Tuesday in on the low-carb trend, too, thanks to its new roster of more than 30 Atkins-friendly menu options. Highlights include chicken salad with almonds and bacon, as well as whole-grain chicken quesadillas, with just a fraction of the carbs found in most standard Mexican fare. Ruby Tuesday is also now using trans-fat-free canola in its fried foods, so even though the jalapeno poppers aren't low-cal, at least they're better for you.

* Not to be outdone, low-carb chips have invaded the grocery-store snack aisle. Doritos Edge and Tostitos Edge chips--available next month--are made with high-quality fiber and protein instead of processed carbs. We barely noticed the difference.
