Beef jerky & his brother turkey
Men's Fitness, May, 2003 by Mike Carlson, Allan Donnelly, Ben Kallen, Bobby Lee, Mark Thorpe, Tom Weede
WHEN TRYING TO watch your carb intake, finding something to snack on can be a tougher proposition than watching Joe Millionaire multiply single-digit numbers ("What does the `x' mean?"). Well, jerky, the answer is ... jerky!
LOW IN CARBS and containing almost zero fat, beef and turkey jerky can be convenient, high-protein snacks that travel well and don't easily spoil. When you want to sneak in an extra 15 to 20 grams of protein a day (getting that gram of protein per pound of body weight can be hard at times), these jerky twins are perfect deskside foods. Just be sure to drink extra water to flush out all that salt.
WE RECOMMEND Pemmican beef or turkey jerky; both are available in single-serving sizes or in larger, resealable bags.
THE PROOF IS IN THE PACKAGE 1 oz. Pemmican beef jerky: 80 calories, 5g carbs, 13g protein, 0.5g fat (zero sat. fat) 1 oz. Pemmican turkey jerky: 70 calories, 5g carbs, 9g protein, 1g fat (zero sat. fat)
