Rapper's delight: they've sold north of 3 million CDs in the U.S. alone. Now the Black Eyed Peas are back with the sure-to-be-massive Monkey Business. Band member Fergie dishes on life as a hip-hop superstar

Men's Fitness, June-July, 2005 by Mac Montandon

Q: What's it like on the road living with three guys?

A: It's great. I get to be one of the guys. But there are times when I do get really girlie--go in my hotel room, rent a chick flick, have a banana split.

Q: You guys brought in some big names to work on Monkey Business--Dick Dale, John Legend, James Brown. How was it working with the Godfather of Soul?

A: It was amazing. He showed up with his entire entourage, about 20 people. And his hair is a phenomenon--it's perfect.

Q: Is it tough to stay in shape while touring?

A: Actually, it's easier, because I'm forced to work out-whether I want to or not--when we do our set every night.

Q: Do you have a trainer?

A: No. When I have someone telling me what to do, I tend to rebel against that.

Q: Does a guy need to be as ripped as you to have a chance?

A: Definitely not. I've dated all shapes and sizes. For me, there's got to be a chemical connection, and also, I used to be attracted to all the wrong things. But I've switched my thinking, so now, when someone treats me well, it actually makes him more attractive.
