Oasis: Don't Believe the Truth
Men's Fitness, June-July, 2005
Three years after their previous effort landed with a thud, one-time British pop gods Noel and Liam Gallagher and the gang are back. And the results are much better this time around. Sounding less like "the new Beatles" and more like the old Beatles, Don't Believe the Truth is far more melodic than earlier Oasis efforts.
The band also channels rock-era Bob Dylan to good effect on the CD's second song, "Mucky Fingers" But by the last track, where the Gallagher brothers repeatedly croon the chorus to "Let There Be Love;' there is little doubt about the musical heritage Oasis is mining. To its credit, the band does a pretty decent Lennon-McCartney impersonation. ***
