Next time you buy new basketball shoes, look for the pair with the best support

* Next time you buy new basketball shoes, look for the pair with the best support. According to a new Duke University study, shoes with proper arch support may be the key to eliminating foot pain and injuries on the court. When researchers asked 11 college B-ballers to wear electronic pressure monitors inside their shoes, they discovered that it's pivot moves--like landing after a layup--that put the foot at the greatest risk of injury.

Protect your arches, they say, and you're more likely to stay injury-free.
