Boredom buster: use your credit card to supercharge your cardio
Men's Fitness, August, 2004
We're not suggesting you charge the latest treadmill mutation you saw on that late night infomercial. But you can put that plastic to work for your heart by following this tip from Ryan Lee, M,S., C.S.C.S., owner of SportSpecific.com. Just remember to take it with you to the gym.
HERE'S WHAT TO DO
Let every number equal a speed on the treadmill and run for a half-mile at each of the speeds. So if the first four digits are 4529, run your first half-mile at 4.0, your second half-mile at 5.0, and se on. If one of the numbers is zero, consider that a 10. A second option: Let the numbers equal incline grades and run it that way. Both work your heart hard--even more than seeing the interest on your balance at the end of the month.
