Get bigger, look thinner: take off the weight with this trainer-approved tip
Men's Fitness, Sept, 2005
WANT TO KNOW THE QUICKEST way to lose an inch from your waist? Just add one to your shoulders. Sure, it's an optical illusion, but it works--even if you've recently maxed out your belt size. You ready?
HERE'S WHAT TO DO
Before an upper-body workout (but after your warm-up), hold a dumbbell in each hand. Let your left arm hang at your side and raise your right one out to 90 degrees (as in the top part of a lateral raise) [1]. Keeping your right arm in position, perform 10 one-and-a-quarter lateral raises with your left arm: Lift the weight to 90 degrees [2], lower it a quarter of the way [3], raise it back up to 90, then lower it to the starting position. That's one set. Rest three minutes, switch arms, and repeat. Perform one set for each shoulder, twice a week for four weeks, and you'll easily add an inch or more to your delts--without smoke or mirrors.
