Men's Fitness, August, 2002 by Mike Carlson, Allan Donnelly, Ben Kallen, Bobby Lee, Mark Thorpe, Tom Weede

GUYS WHO EXERCISE often experience muscle soreness after a hard workout, especially if they're not already in great shape. But researchers at Tufts University have found that you can reduce pain and inflammation by taking vitamin E, as the antioxidant cuts down on the free-radical damage that can result from intense exercise.

When men both young and old took either the vitamin or a placebo for three months, the vitamin takers, particularly the younger ones, rated their soreness levels lower. While the study involved doses of 1,000 IU of E per day, the researchers said men could probably get similar results from 200 to 400 IU.
