The virgin Joseph - poem

Cross Currents, Fall, 1998 by Nathan Whiting

There is a long way to go, to when I pray to the Virgin Joseph. What a man. He is shown shaping wood. Perhaps he was a rabbi but in a rathole town needed a solid job. Oh the virgin, virgin, Virgin Joe, the soap opera perils of Israel spread around him acting badly. The worries raptures and dissatisfactions of fatherhood are tremendous in him. The kid, or were there several hard developments for Joseph's patience, had a better Father. I can be more in sympathy with the unneeded Joseph. Pray pray to his holy sense of perfect self compassion.
