God's timeless gift

Contemporary Review, Dec, 1998 by Collin West

Christmas, that time of joyous merriment, Those twinkling coloured lights upon the tree, Heaped presents strewn beneath in disarray, And cards once more from friends so far away

Once more Church bells ring out . . . Do they herald an episode to shake the world? Or just a story to delight . . . Quite soon defiantly abandoned and forgotten

'Peace on the earth' the age old legend says, Eternal hope for that elusive dawn? Just rhetoric? Still an impossible dream? Why? Why, we cry, is mankind so immutable?

Born in a stable! What a start for one destined to offer to the world the greatest gift of all - true love instead of hate. The final certainty - that cross of blood.
