Contemporary Review, Sept, 2002

Faith in Diplomacy: A Memoir. Archie Mackenzie. Caux Books -- Grosvenor Books. [pounds sterling]9.95 p.b. 208 pages. ISBN 1-85239-030-1. These are the recollections of a career diplomat who was born in Glasgow and first attended Glasgow University after which he went up to Oxford where he became involved in the 'Moral Rearmament' movement.

After Oxford he went to the University of Chicago and, when war broke out, he found himself in America working for British interests in Washington. This led in turn to a career in the diplomatic service with work at the fledgling U.N. followed by postings in the Far East, Cyprus, France, Burma, Yugoslavia, Tunisia, and the 'Third World'. Beside his memoirs the author has devoted the two final chapters to a discussion of the wider aspects of his life's work and to the future of diplomacy. Here he harkens back to the goals and ideals of the Moral Rearmament movement of his youth.
