Trollope on compact disc

Contemporary Review, Nov, 1996 by Richard Mullen

Of course, every devoted reader of Trollope will mutter: where is my favourite extract from this novel or that novel. Only those who have tried to select passages from such an author can appreciate the enormity of the task. Trollope after all is 'fortunately inexhaustible' as Noel Coward said. Yet it was only John Letts's abilities and determination that brought these remarkable discs to fruition. As the Dean of Westminster said, at the dedication of the Memorial Stone to Anthony Trollope in Westminster Abbey - another achievement we owe to John Letts - we can all now join in 'in thankful memory of Anthony Trollope'.

[My Life and Works by Anthony Trollope, a two CD set (503265300001), costs [pounds]24.00. Information about it is available from The Trollope Society, (9a North Street, London SW4 0HN) or from The Trollope Society, Mercantile Library, 17E 47th Street, New York, NY 100017.]

[Dr Richard Mullen is the author of the biography, Anthony Trollope: A Victorian in His World and of several BBC programmes about the Trollope family. He is the co-author, with Dr James Munson, of the Penguin Trollope Companion published this month.]
