Youth in Crises: A Team Approach in the Schools, 2d. ed. - book reviews

Adolescence, Winter, 1994

The greatest amount of effort in the schools is aimed at youths who are at risk in the area of learning--those likely to fail or drop out. However, there are an ever-increasing number of children and adolescents who are at risk for emotional problems. This book presents those issues that impair the emotional development of young persons to such an extent that they are at risk for greater mental health problems, failure to have successful lives, and suicide.

These problems, which some schoolchildren live with day to day, include divorce, loss of another, substance abuse, homelessness, abuse, and depression. Through the use of fictional vignettes, the author attempts to sensitize the reader to what it is like to be a young person under stress.
