This is a compilation of extended abstracts of presentations to the 3rd International Conference on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders held in Padova, Italy on 12-17 July 1993. The editors have attempted to draw it into a single volume by including transcripts of the opening ceremony and addresses and the reader is left with at least some sense of the occasion.

The book is unfortunately plagued by numerous typographical and grammatical inconsistencies and despite editing it lacks coherence. I think the majority of readers will find their way into this volume through pursuit of specialized literature searches. The general reader with an interest in Alzheimer's research will have difficulty deciding the relative importance of the many different research areas covered in this volume. One for the reference library certainly but not for the coffee table.
